Amarnath Yatra 2025: Pilgrims Busses Collide In Jammu & Kashmir's Ramban, 36 Injured
A convoy of buses carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims met with an accident in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Saturday. The mishap occurred around 8 am near Chanderkoot on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, ANI reported. Officials reported that at least 36 pilgrims sustained minor injuries when five buses collided. These buses were travelling from Jammu's Bhagwati Nagar base camp to Pahalgam in south Kashmir.
The accident was caused by a brake failure in one of the buses, leading it to crash into other vehicles in the convoy. "The last vehicle in the Pahalgam-bound convoy lost control and hit stationary vehicles at the Chanderkoot langer site. Four vehicles were damaged, and 36 pilgrims suffered minor injuries," stated Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan.

Immediate Response and Medical Care
Government officials present at the scene quickly transported the injured to Ramban district hospital. Senior police officers later visited the hospital to monitor the situation and instructed the chief medical officer to ensure top-notch medical care for those injured. The pilgrims received first aid and were discharged shortly after, according to Ramban Medical Superintendent Dr Sudarshan Singh Katoch.
Following the incident, authorities arranged for other vehicles to accommodate the pilgrims so they could continue their journey. Officials confirmed that once replacement buses were provided, the convoy resumed its travel without further delay.
Union Minister's Assurance To Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims
Union Minister Jitendra Singh addressed concerns through a post on X, reassuring that all necessary arrangements for the injured had been made. He stated, "Just now spoke to DC #Ramban, Mr. Mohammad Alyas Khan, after learning about the road accident at Chandrakot involving a vehicle carrying Amarnath pilgrims. 36 pilgrims sustained minor injuries, which are being attended at District Hospital Ramban. There is no reason for concern."
The fourth batch of Amarnath pilgrims had left earlier from Bhagwati Nagar base camp between 3:30 am and 4:05 am in two convoys. This group included 6,979 individuals comprising men, women, children, sadhus and sadhvis, and one transgender person.
Amarnath Yatra Pilgrimage Routes
A total of 4,226 pilgrims travelled in 161 vehicles towards Nunwan base camp via the traditional Pahalgam route covering 48 kilometres. Meanwhile, another group of 2,753 pilgrims opted for the shorter but steeper Baltal route spanning 14 kilometres using 151 vehicles.
