Allahabad HC issues notice to Mayawati, two relatives

Lucknow, Feb 15: In a major setback to Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday issued notice to her with regard to a land purchase in 2006.

A bench of Chief Justice D.B. Bhonsle and Justice Yashwant Verma gave the order on a petition by Sandeep Bhati, a social worker.

Notices were also issued to Mayawati's brother Anand and her nephew.

The case pertains to change in land use of a large stretch in her native village Badalpur in Gautam Buddh Nagar to populated land, and then its subsequent allocation to her brother.

The petitioner has alleged that this was done with a view to changing the land use so that sale of the plot, in part or whole, could fetch a huge sum to the owners.

While issuing notices to the respondents, the court asked the registry to club the PIL with another pending petition, in which similar allegations have been made, and list the matter for further hearing.
