One such occasion is 'Akshaya Trtiya', an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar that falls on the third lunar day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Vaisakha (April-May).

The word 'akshaya' in Sanskrit means "never diminishing" and 'tritiya' means "third phase of the moon". It is said that buying gold, silver or any other ornaments is considered auspicious on this day as it signifies wealth and prosperity. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna gave Draupadi a 'patra' (copper vessel) which helped her prepare an abundance of food for Pandavas and her guests during their 'agyatvas' (exile).

Every year, it is observed on the Shukla Paksha of the Vaisakha month in the Hindu calendar and it is celebrated this year on April 22.

'Akshaya Tritiya Muhurat' and Auspicious Time to Buy Gold, Silver

According to Drik Panchang, the 'Akshaya Tritiya tithi' begins at 7:49 am and ends on April 23 at at 7:47 am.

However, the pooja timings is between 7.49 am and 12.37 pm on Saturday in most cities in India. However, the auspicious time to buy ornaments is between 7.49 am Saturday to 6.16 am on Sunday.
