Akshay Shinde Shot Dead While Being Transferred by Thane Police for Investigation

The Thane police reported that Akshay Shinde, accused in a school sexual assault case, was killed during a police operation. He was being transported from Taloja jail to Badlapur due to a new FIR filed by his former wife. The incident occurred when he attempted to escape by seizing a police officer's gun and firing at the officers.

Thane Police Incident: Akshay Shinde Shot Dead

Officials from Thane's Central Crime Unit had secured a transfer warrant for Shinde. This was in relation to an FIR lodged at Badlapur police station. The charges included sections 377, 324, 323, and 504 of the Indian Penal Code. The police team took custody of Shinde around 5:30 pm.

Police Encounter Details

While returning, the police vehicle reached Mumbra Bypass between 6 pm and 6:15 pm. At this point, Shinde, aged 24, managed to grab the service revolver of API Nilesh More. He fired three shots at the police team, injuring More in the lap. Two other bullets were discharged elsewhere.

In response, another officer fired back in self-defence, hitting Shinde. Both API More and Shinde were immediately taken to Kalwa civic hospital. Doctors there referred More to Jupiter hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, Shinde was declared dead upon arrival at Kalwa civic hospital.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The police stated that Shinde's body would be sent to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a post-mortem examination. A special investigation team of 15 members was formed on September 13 under ACP Shekar Bagde and senior inspector Sanjay Shinde. This team is tasked with probing the FIR filed by Shinde's former wife.

The FIRs related to sexual assault on two minor girls were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. These incidents reportedly occurred on August 11-12, leading to Shinde's arrest on August 17.

The investigation continues as authorities seek to uncover more details surrounding these serious allegations and the events leading up to Shinde's death during the police encounter.
