Akshay Kumar Changes Film Title To 'The Great Bharat Rescue' Amid India-Bharat Row

Amid the ongoing debate surrounding the name change of India to Bharat, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has decided to rename his upcoming film from 'Mission Ranigan: The Great Indian Rescue' to 'Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue.' The film's producers announced this alteration alongside the release of the first look poster.

In the midst of the online discourse about the proposed shift from India to Bharat, Akshay Kumar's film has opted for a name change. The movie, initially titled 'Mission Ranigan: The Great Indian Rescue,' has now been rebranded as 'Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue.'

The film draws inspiration from a real-life event that unfolded at the "Raniganj Coalfield" and is based on the heroic actions of Late Shri Jaswant Singh Gill, who led a coal mine rescue mission in Bharat. Jaswant Singh Gill played a pivotal role in the successful rescue of miners trapped inside a flooded coal mine in Raniganj in November 1989, defying all odds.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Sharma, Virendra Saxena, Shishir Sharma, Ananth Mahadevan, Jameel Khan, Sudhir Pandey, Bachan Pachera, Mukesh Bhatt, and Omkar Das Manikpuri, 'Mission Raniganj' pays tribute to the resilience, determination, and valor of the human spirit and engineering ingenuity. The film also marks Tinu Suresh Desai's next thrilling project following the critical and commercial success of Rustom.

The motion poster provides a glimpse into the gripping rescue operation that unfolded when miners found themselves trapped beneath the 350-foot-deep coal mine. Akshay Kumar, portraying the heroic character of Late Jaswant Singh Gill, emerges as the central figure, leading a daring rescue operation.

The film's teaser is set to be unveiled on September 7, with its theatrical release scheduled for October 6, 2023.
