Akhilesh Yadav won't attend 'Dedh Ishqiya' premier

Lucknow, Jan 10: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday announced that he will not attend the premier of Madhuri Dixit-starrer 'Dedh Ishqiya'. The announcement comes after he was widely slammed for holding '

Mahotsav', a star-studded event attended by Bollywood stars including Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit, in Saifai, Akhilesh's native town.

Stars like Madhuri, Salman, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh are also being criticised for performing at the event. Many Bollywood celebrities have come forward in support of the stars.I think it extremely unfair (to criticize the stars). We don't know the details as to why they have taken it or why they have done it, should they have done it. I can't take a moral high ground, I'm a performer myself. At times I've gone ahead and performed not even realising that there are issues surrounding the area I'm performing in," said Shahrukh Khan

On Thursday Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan justified their performance at Saifai and said they performed for charity. The stars donated Rs 25 Lakhs each for the riot victims on Thursday.

Around 20 crore was spent on the event which was attended by at least 25000 people including government officials and Samamjwadi Party leaders, said sources. Following the event, the UP government had announced a one crore subsidy for Dedh Ishqiya.

The SP government went ahead wuith event when the riot victims in Muzaffarnagar were reeling under miserable living conditions. Uttar Pradesh government had admitted that 34 children have died due to cold in the relief camp. Familes are now being evacuated from the relief camps. Akhilesh and his cabinet is being slammed for not taking adequate steps for the riot victims and not provinding them with basic necessities.
