Lucknow, April 6: The perilous feud in the family of Mulayam Singh Yadav turned uglier after the defeat in the recently concluded assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Recently, the younger daughter-in-law of the Yadav-clan, politically-ambitious Aparna Yadav expressed her views that former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav should hand over party reins to his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Have a look at Aparna Yadav's political journey, that is yet to take off:

Aparna blamed the reason behind her defeat from Lucknow cantonment constituency on party insiders. Aparna got defeated by the BJP's heavyweight candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi (who left the Congress) by a margin of 33,796 votes. While Rita secured 95,402 votes, Aparna got only 61,606 votes and stood in the second place.

Besides Mulayam, Akhilesh and his wife Dimple Yadav had also campaigned on this seat for Aparna but all their efforts went in vain with people selecting the BJP candidate.

An interesting point to be noted is that the Samajwadi Party has never won from Lucknow Cantt constituency and traditionally it has been a bastion of the BJP, which started its winning streak in 1991 with party's Satish Bhatia defeating Premwari Tiwari of Congress. The BJP continued its winning spree till 2007. In 2012 assembly polls (post-delimitation), the BJP lost this seat to the Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who then defeated three times sitting MLA Suresh Chandra Tiwari.

During a thanksgiving ceremony, Aparna said that wounds become more serious when they are inflicted by your own people, while adding that her ship sank when the shore was nearby.

"This defeat has taught me a life-long lesson and now I can differentiate between my own people and others", she said.

While invoking Mahabharata, Aparna said that she could have won if senior party leaders had guided and supported her the way Lord Krishna had guided Arjuna.

Without losing hope and full of determination, Aparna asserted that winning and losing is a part of life.

Hopeful that the differences within her family members will be resolved soon, Aparna said that Akhilesh should keep his promise and hand over the post of party's national president to her father-in-law.

In January this year, Akhilesh took over as the Samajwadi Party chief and had said that he would hand over party's reins to his father once elections are over.
