Ajit Pawar Expresses Desire for Senior Position in NCP, Plans to Step Down as Maha LoP

Ajit Pawar, a prominent leader of the National Congress Party (NCP), has expressed his intention to step down from his current role as the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, according to reports.

Pawar aims to secure a senior position within the party, with speculations pointing towards the coveted role of Party President.

Making the announcement during a speech delivered to party workers at the Shanmukhanand Auditorium in Mumbai, Pawar addressed his aspirations in the presence of party stalwart Sharad Pawar.

Pawar said, "I am told that I don't act tough as the leader of the opposition".

"I was never interested to work as Leader of Opposition but accepted the role on demand of the party MLAs," he said. Though he said that it is up to NCP leadership to decide on his demand.

"Assign me any post in the party organization, and I will do complete justice to whatever responsibility I am entrusted with," he added.

In July 2022, Ajit Pawar assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition after the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, in which he served as deputy chief minister, faced a collapse due to a rebellion within the Shiv Sena.

Notably, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has entrusted his daughter and Member of Parliament, Supriya Sule, with the responsibility of Maharashtra by appointing her as a working president. Additionally, Praful Patel has been appointed as another working president to oversee affairs in other states.
