Ajit Doval To Stay On As NSA, PK Mishra's Term Extended
Ajit Doval has been appointed as the National Security Advisor (NSA) for the third consecutive term in the Narendra Modi government. His tenure will be co-terminus with the term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or until further orders, according to an official order from the Personnel Ministry.
PK Mishra, IAS (Retired), will continue to serve as the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Dr. PK Mishra's reappointment, effective from June 10, 2024. His tenure, like Doval's, will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever comes first. During his tenure, Mishra will hold the rank of Cabinet Minister in the Table of Precedence.

Additionally, Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor have been appointed as Advisors to the Prime Minister in the Prime Minister's Office. They will hold the rank and scale of Secretary to the Government of India for a period of two years starting June 10, 2024, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Personnel Ministry's order stated, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ajit Doval, IPS (Retired) as National Security Advisor with effect from June 10, 2024." Doval will also hold the rank of Cabinet Minister in the Table of Precedence, with the terms and conditions of his appointment to be notified separately.
Ajit Doval has been serving as NSA since the first term of PM Modi in 2014. He was reappointed in 2019 when the BJP returned with a larger majority, and he has been entrusted with the role once again in 2024.
