Acknowledging the issue, Airtel Cares issued a statement citing a "temporary connectivity disruption" as the cause. The company assured users that services would be restored within an hour.
"We apologise for the inconvenience. The issue you're facing appears to be due to a temporary connectivity disruption and is expected to be resolved within 1 hour. Once that time has passed, please restart your mobile phone to restore services. Thank you," the official Airtel Cares message read.
The downtime triggered frustration among users, many of whom took to social media to vent their anger. Several customers complained about the lack of prior notification.
"Airtel internet down in Bangalore today? Anyone else facing this? @airtelindia, at least notify users about outages instead of leaving us clueless!" one user posted on X.
Another user wrote, "Airtel postpaid is down since last 6 hours, not able to make calls or access internet. @airtel is works, zero accountability and you can't talk to customer care, @TRAI you should atleast take some action, it looks like @airtelindia has taken Indian citizens for a ride."
Previous outage
This is not the first time Airtel services have been disrupted this month. On August 18, users across India experienced a prolonged outage, starting primarily with Airtel and later extending to Jio and Vodafone-Idea customers.
On that day, DownDetector logged more than 3,600 complaints of Airtel outages around 4:30 PM, a sharp rise compared to the normal baseline of fewer than 15. Reports gradually dropped to under 150 by 10:30 PM, showing a slow restoration of services.
