Airfare from Jewar Airport likely to be cheaper than Delhi's IGI

The Noida International Airport, which is expected to begin operations by October 2024, is expected to benefit passengers big time.

Airfare from Jewar Airport likely to be cheaper than Delhis IGI

According to a report, travelling from the Jewar airport is likely to be cheaper than Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. "Operators will try to bring more flights to come to Jewar, definitely both airports will compete with each other, I think initially travelling from Jewar airport will be more economical than Delhi," ANI had earlier quoted Additional Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh, SP Goyal, as saying.

Echoing the same views, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh had the airport in Noida will not only bring change in the state, but passengers would get cheap tickets than that in Delhi and will also bring a big opportunity of employment in the region.

He said that the compensation process with the farmers has been done by the government despite facing huge challenges for the acquisition of land from the farmers for the airport. "In an area where bullets were fired for two yards of land and getting the right compensation by acquiring land on a large scale from farmers was a big challenge," he said.

The airport is strategically located at about 72 km from IGI Airport, about 52 km from Noida, about 130 km from Agra and about 90 km from Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (MMLG) at Dadri. The authorities are hoping to complete the first phase of the project by the end of September this year.

The Noida airport, which is being built near Jewar along the Yamuna Expressway, is expected to witness a whopping 50 lakh passengers on the very first day when it will be dedicated to the nation on October 1, 2024.

"We are expecting 5 million passengers on Day One without a single spillover from the IGI (Indira Gandhi International) Airport in Delhi," asserted Noida International Airport Ltd (NIAL) Chief Executive Arun Vir Singh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Noida International Greenfield Airport in November 2021.

The construction work on The Noida International Airport started in June 2021.
