Airborne magnetic survey for ground water begins in Ramgarh

Using a helicopter, a team of geolphysical scientists led by NGRI's principal scientist Somvanshi is taking frequent flights to survey the ground water availability in 3,500 line kilometer (hydrographic unit) of Ramgarh adjoining the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer district, officials said today.
The survey is aimed to locate water resources/bodies beneath the sand dunes as the area has a depleted water table, they said. The chopper takes three hours during a single flight to record magnetic data required for research by the NGRI. The survey will be helpful to the Border Security Force (BSF), whose jawans patrol the border. It would also help livestock travelling in the arid Thar desert, they said. The survey has drawn the attention of rural people and children who gather to watch the choppers.
