Air India sacks 10 air hostesses for reporting late for work
New Delhi, Mar 4: Air India sacked about 10 air hostesses last week for reporting late for work, said a Times of India report.

The air hostesses were blamed for the flight delays. The report says that AI decided to take action finally after repeated incidents of cabin crew turning up late for work, delaying flights and keeping passengers waiting for hours.

According to sources, more crew members could lose their jobs in the coming days.

The airlines has a cabin crew of 3,600.

"The first batch of four air hostesses was sacked after a Delhi-Chicago non-stop flight was delayed because of late arrival of stewardesses last week. The services of five or six more were terminated on Sunday evening. More action will follow," said a senior official.

Air hostesses delaying flights isn't new. On February 13, four air hostesses did not reach Delhi's terminal 3 for scheduled flight to Australia.

Reportedly, one of them reached the airport almost two hours after the scheduled departure time, and other three refused to fly. One of them, reportedly, said she preferred to fly to nearby places like Dubai and not Australia. She was subsequently suspended.

The airlines issued a general notice soon warning the employees that if they do not report to work on time, the airline will take penal action, including terminating their services.
