Air India Flight En Route US Returns to Mumbai, Technical Issue Under Probe

A US-bound Air India flight was forced to turn back to Mumbai on Wednesday morning after a suspected technical issue, an airline spokesperson confirmed. Flight AI191, which had departed for Newark earlier in the day, executed a precautionary "air return" and landed safely without incident.

Precautionary Measures Taken by Crew

"The crew of flight AI191 operating from Mumbai to Newark on 22 October made a precautionary air-return to Mumbai due to a suspected technical issue," the airline stated. Following its return, the aircraft was immediately taken out of service for thorough inspections.

Flight Cancellations and Passenger Assistance

As a result, flights AI191 and AI144, which operate between Mumbai and Newark, were cancelled. Air India has arranged hotel accommodations and alternative flights for passengers stranded in Mumbai. Those in Newark have also been informed of the disruptions.

"The flight landed safely back in Mumbai, and the aircraft is undergoing necessary inspections. All affected passengers at Mumbai have been provided hotel accommodations and have been rebooked on alternative Air India and other airlines' flights to their destination," the spokesperson added.

Support for Newark Passengers

Passengers on flight AI144 departing from Newark were similarly notified of the cancellation. "The passengers of AI144 from Newark were also notified of the cancellation and are being assisted with alternative arrangements at the earliest opportunity," the airline confirmed.
