Air India Flight AI111 Makes Emergency Return To Delhi After Suspected Technical Problem

An Air India flight heading to London Heathrow had to return to Delhi on Thursday after a suspected technical problem was detected during the journey.

The aircraft, which had been in the air for several hours, made a precautionary return to ensure passenger safety.

What Happened During the Flight?

The flight, AI111, was operated using an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. It took off from Delhi at around 6 am and was on its way to London when the crew noticed a possible technical issue.

According to reports, unusual noises were heard inside the aircraft while it was flying over Saudi Arabian airspace. As a safety measure, the pilots decided to turn the aircraft back to Delhi.

The plane remained airborne for several hours before safely landing back in the national capital at around 12:30 pm. Overall, it had been in the air for nearly seven hours.

Safety Measures Taken by Air India

Air India confirmed that the return was a precautionary step taken in line with its safety standards. The airline said the aircraft landed safely and is now undergoing detailed technical checks.

In a statement, the airline assured passengers that safety remains its top priority. It also said that the aircraft would be thoroughly inspected before being cleared for future operations.

The sudden return caused inconvenience to passengers travelling to London. However, the airline has apologised for the disruption and is making arrangements to help passengers continue their journey as soon as possible.

Interestingly, the same aircraft (registration VT-JRF) had reportedly faced a technical issue earlier this month. On March 15, while operating a flight from New York to Delhi, it had to be diverted to Shannon in Ireland due to a similar problem.

This raises questions about repeated technical concerns, though officials have not confirmed if the two incidents are connected.
