AIMIM Pledges Support to Hina Shahab for Lok Sabha Polls in Bihar

In a significant political development in Patna on March 28, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has expressed its unwavering support for Hina Shahab, the widow of the infamous gangster-turned-politician Mohd Shahabuddin. During a press conference, AIMIM's Bihar MLA and state unit head, Akhtarul Iman, announced the party's readiness to back Shahab if she decides to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, either as an independent candidate or under the banner of a like-minded party.

AIMIM Backs Hina Shahab in Bihar

Hina Shahab, who previously contested Lok Sabha elections from Siwan as a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate, has faced neglect from her party recently. This was evident when Tejashwi Yadav, RJD's de facto leader, did not engage with her family during his Jan Vishwas Yatra in Siwan. Additionally, RJD's alliance with CPIML Liberation—a party historically at odds with Shahabuddin—has further alienated her, prompting speculation about her political future.

Iman clarified that while AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi's personal campaign schedule for Shahab remains uncertain due to his commitments, the party's intention to support her is clear. This announcement comes amidst AIMIM's decision to contest 15 seats in Bihar, an increase from their previously declared 11. The party is also considering contesting in Madhubani, responding to pressure from its cadre.

The AIMIM leader also addressed allegations of being BJP's 'B team', a label given by the JDU led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Iman refuted these claims and emphasized that AIMIM's political engagement extends beyond the Muslim community, especially in the Seemanchal region where Muslims are a significant demographic. He revealed that more than half of AIMIM's candidates would be non-Muslims, showcasing the party's inclusive approach to politics.

This political maneuver by AIMIM could potentially reshape the electoral dynamics in Bihar, especially in constituencies like Siwan and Kishanganj. With Hina Shahab possibly entering the fray with AIMIM's support, the upcoming elections are set to witness an intriguing contest.
