PM Modi took to twitter to congratulate the AIADMK. He also wished Tamil Nadu and said he wishes the state 'scales new heights of progress' in the future. He also said that the Centre will assure all possible support to the CM and his deputy for the growth of the state.

There is the growing prospect of the AIADMK joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi's coalition government.

Modi had met the leaders of both factions recently, expressing his party's interest in erasing the divisions within the regional party. The AIADMK has 37 Lok Sabha MPs and 13 in the Rajya Sabha - the latter will give the central government the majority it has been lacking in the Upper House. There is also talk of the BJP expressing interest in allying with the AIADMK for approaching local elections.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party national President Amit Shah cancelled his trip to Tamil Nadu once again, setting off speculations of an impending reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's council of ministers.
