AHSP of P-7 Parachute System Officially Transferred to DRDO Laboratory for Enhanced Defence Operations
The Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) has received the Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP) for the P-7 Parachute System from a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory, as announced by the defence ministry. The AHSP is responsible for managing the complete history and technical details of defence products, including updates and obsolescence declarations.

The Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Agra transferred the AHSP to DGQA. This handover was officiated by Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO, during a ceremony at DRDO Bhawan on Monday. ADRDE has successfully designed, developed, and qualified the P-7 Parachute System.
Parachute System Capabilities
The parachute system was manufactured by Gliders India Limited Ordnance Parachute Factory (GIL OPF) in Kanpur. It can safely deliver payloads weighing up to 9.5 tonnes from IL-76 aircraft at altitudes reaching 4 km. This capability allows the Indian Army to quickly deploy light field guns and Jeeps to border and conflict zones through air-drops.
The Indian Army has already placed an order with GIL OPF, Kanpur for 146 units of the P-7 Heavy Drop Parachute System. The system has successfully passed General Staff Evaluation and is now part of military operations.
