Ahmedabad: PM Modi To Inaugurate Indias First Operations Control Centre For Freight Trains
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Indias first operations control centre for freight trains in Ahmedabad. The centre will monitor and regulate train operations along the 1,506 km-long Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the operations control center of the 1,506 km-long Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) on Tuesday. This state-of-the-art facility, built at a cost of Rs 280 crore in Ahmedabad, marks a significant milestone in India's railway infrastructure.
It will serve as a centralized hub for monitoring and regulating freight train operations along the entire WDFC route, from Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to JNPT in Gujarat.

Centralized Control and Monitoring
The operations control center (OCC) houses advanced train controlling and monitoring mechanisms, enabling real-time tracking of all freight trains along the route. This centralized control system provides a comprehensive view of train movements, allowing operators to make informed decisions and ensure efficient operations. Train controllers can monitor train positions, track conditions, signal faults, overhead wire issues, and loco pilot performance, enabling prompt corrective actions.
Transforming Freight Train Operations
The Eastern and Western DFCs have revolutionized freight train operations in India. These corridors are exclusively dedicated to freight transport, allowing freight trains to operate at significantly higher speeds compared to passenger train routes. This has resulted in improved efficiency and reduced transit times for freight movement.
Inauguration of New Sections
In addition to inaugurating the OCC, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate two new sections of the DFCs. The 401-km Khurja Junction-Sanehwal section of the EDFC and the 224-km Makarpura Junction-Gholvad section of the WDFC will further enhance the reach and connectivity of the DFC network.
Benefits for Passenger Train Operations
The DFCs are not only transforming freight transport but also benefiting passenger train operations. By decongesting the routes, the DFCs enable smoother and more efficient passenger train services. This leads to improved safety, reduced travel time, and enhanced overall passenger experience.
The inauguration of the operations control center and the new DFC sections marks a significant step forward in India's railway infrastructure development. These initiatives will revolutionize freight train operations, improve passenger train services, and contribute to the overall growth and efficiency of the country's transportation network.
