Ahmedabad-Diu IndiGo Flight Aborts Takeoff After Engine Catches Fire Mid-Roll

An IndiGo flight scheduled to operate from Ahmedabad to Diu was forced to abort takeoff on Tuesday after one of its engines caught fire during the takeoff roll. The incident involved an ATR-76 aircraft (Flight 6E 7966) and occurred around 11 am at the Ahmedabad airport.

According to reports, the aircraft was already on the runway preparing to take off when the pilots noticed a technical issue. They immediately declared a "Mayday" emergency to the air traffic control and halted the takeoff. The aircraft was promptly evacuated, and all 60 passengers on board were safely deplaned.

A spokesperson for IndiGo confirmed the incident and stated: "A technical snag indication was noticed just before take-off on IndiGo flight 6E 7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on 23 July 2025. Following the standard operating procedure, the pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations."

IndiGo expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and said it was offering full refunds, alternative flight arrangements, or accommodation along with refreshments depending on customer preferences.

This incident follows another technical snag earlier in the week involving an IndiGo flight from Goa to Indore. That aircraft encountered a problem just before landing but managed a safe touchdown. IndiGo has confirmed that the aircraft involved in that case is also undergoing a thorough technical inspection before it resumes service.
