Life term for cow slaughter in Gujarat

The Gujarat assembly on Friday made amendments to the Cow Protection law introducing harsher punishments. With the amendment, cow slaughter will now attract life term in Gujarat. The move comes months ahead of the assembly polls slated to take place by the end of this year.

Ahead of polls Gujarat assembly amends cow protection law

On March 13, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, while addressing a gathering at Swaminarayan Gurukul had said that the government would enact a harsher law providing for life-term for those found involved in cow-slaughtering and transportation of beef. The same has been enacted on Friday.

"We fought to bring a law in Gujarat to save cows. We now want to make this law stringent. We will introduce a Bill in the ongoing Budget session of the Gujarat assembly during next week," Rupani had said.
