Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, 1,000 kg explosives seized in Dausa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Dausa on February 12 to inaugurate the Dausa-Sonha stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

New Delhi,Feb 10: The Rajasthan police on Thursday arrested a man from Dausa with 1,000 kilograms of explosives.

The arrested has been identified as Rajesh Meena, a resident of Vyas Mohalla. The police have also seized the vehicle in which the explosives were being transported.

The development comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dausa on February 12 to inaugurate the Dausa-Sonha stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

The police said that they had recovered electric detonators, explosive shells and connecting wires from the possession of the accused. Besides this, 360 explosive pellets, 65 detonators and 13 connecting wires were also seized.

Station House Officer (SHO) Surendra Punia said, " on a tip-off, we checked a vehicle wherein we found 10 quintal explosives and 65 detonators, which are used for using the explosives. Prima facie, it seems the explosives were for illegal mining. However, the real reason would be ascertained after a thorough investigation,"

The accused has been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)and Explosive Substances Act, the police said while adding further investigation in the case continues.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway:

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will connect the capital city of Delhi and financial capital of Mumbai. The expressway will significantly reduces the travel time from the current 24 hours to 12 hours.

    The expressway will be approximately 1,450 kilometres in length and will run through Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. It will also include several bypasses and interchanges and will have a total of six lanes.

    The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will bring several benefits such as faster and more convenient travel, increased economic activity and improved connectivity between important industrial and commercial centres. Further the expressway is expected to create job opportunities and boost the development of the region that it passes through.

    The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project is being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project will be completed several phases.
