Ahead of Independence Day, TN temple gets a 5,000 kg vegetable ‘makeover’
Tamil Nadu temple celebrates 70th Independence Day with 5,000 kg of vegetable ‘decoration’.
Chennai, August 12: It's a feast of vegetables at a temple in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, literally. Ahead of the 70th Independence Day, this temple in the city has been decorated with a humongous amount of vegetables.
Around 5,000 kg of various vegetables have been used to decorate the interior and exterior of the temple. Moreover, all the gods and goddesses in the temple are dressed up with vegetables. Even their usual ornaments are made out of greens.

The devotees are also welcomed by an idol of Bharat Mata (Mother India) adorned in a dress made out of different greens. Her ornaments are nothing, but vegetables. Quite a feast, isn't it?
Even if you are not supposed to eat the cabbages, potatoes, peas and eggplants at the temple, looking at the display of vegetables, especially at a time when prices of greens have sky-rocketed across the country, one could not stop but salivate a bit.
"Tamil Nadu: A temple in Coimbatore decorated with 5,000 kg of vegetables ahead of the Independence Day," tweeted ANI. The nation will mark its 70th Independence Day on August 15.
We wonder who have come up with the "unique" idea of decorating a temple with so many vegetables. Five thousand kilograms of vegetables can easily feed at least a thousand people. This kind of a display of "vegetable wealth" looks little outlandish as many housewives have stopped buying their regular quota of greens after the prices have gone through the roof.
However, since it has been done to mark our 70th Independence Day, all we could do is appreciate the gesture of the temple authorities with a pinch of salt.
