AgustaWestland: CBI wants polygraph test on accused

New Delhi, June 7: The Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate which have been probing the AgustaWestland case want to subject some of the accused persons to a polygraph test in a bid to unearth more information.

CBI officials say that they would approach the court soon and seek permission to conduct a polygraph test.

The CBI says that some of the accused persons have not been truthful during the examination. There is a need to unearth more information.

While the ED would seek out information on the money trail, the CBI is trying to ascertain the role of more people involved in this case in which several crores of rupees were paid as kickbacks.

Stuck at the money trail:
For the CBI and the ED the investigation has been stuck in a loop where the money trail is concerned. The officials say that the money trail is the hardest to unearth. Unless and until the entire trail is unearthed, there will not be any solid evidence.

The CBI has questioned several persons including the former Air Chief, S P Tyagi and his cousins known as the Tyagi brothers. Several more persons including the driver of middleman James Christian Michel were questioned in the case.

While many have admitted to knowing the middlemen, they continue to conceal a lot of information relating to the money trail.

The CBI has also not exactly been helped by the foreign nations such as UK, Mauritius among others. Information has not yet come by. Some countries have asked for specific information before they could share any data. In this context the CBI feels that most of the accused persons must be subject to a lie detector or polygraph test.
