New Delhi, Dec 14: A special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Wednesday extended the custody of former air chief, S P Tyagi and two others till Saturday. Tyagi, an accused in the AgustaWestland case, along with two others will remain in CBI custody for another three days, the court ordered.

During the course of arguments, the CBI argued that there were more questions to be asked. The CBI counsel while seeking an extension of custody said that there is an international angle to this case and hence more questions had to be asked. The CBI has been analysing over 1 lakh documents that have come in from Italy.

Court extends S P Tyagi's CBI custody

On Saturday, the court had remanded Tyagi, Gautam Khaitan and Sanjiv Tyagi to CBI custody till December 14. During the course of the arguments, the CBI's counsel accused Tyagi of giving a step-by-step progress report of the case to European middlemen Guido Haschke in connection with the AgustaWestland case.

However, the defence counsel submitted that Tyagi's arrest was aimed at taking the focus away from demonetisation. The FIR was filed in 2013 and the arrest made almost three years later. This is illogical, the counsel also submitted to the court.

The defence also contended that the remand papers say that the CBI is seeking custody to follow the money trail and transfer of funds through banking channels. If banking channels have not been probed what can the CBI do now, the defence argued while also stating that the arrest is carried out only to use third degree treatment.
