Agra Shock: Woman Ends Life, Leaves Video Alleging Harassment By Police Constable

A 34-year-old fashion designer allegedly died by suicide in Agra after recording a video in which she accused a police constable of harassment and exploitation.

According to police, the woman had been in a live-in relationship for nearly four years with constable Jenter Babu alias JB Gautam, who worked at the Tajganj police station. Investigators said the woman had wanted to marry him, but he allegedly refused, which led to repeated arguments between the two.

The incident took place on Wednesday night in Sainik Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station. Earlier that day, the woman had reportedly gone to stay at her younger sister's house in the Rajpur Chungi area. Later in the night, family members found her hanging from a ceiling hook inside a room.

Before taking the extreme step, the woman recorded an emotional video in which she levelled serious allegations against the constable. In the video that later surfaced on social media, she claimed that the policeman had exploited her and harassed her mentally and physically.

She also alleged that when she approached the police to file a complaint against him, her grievance was not registered. According to her claims in the video, the constable had threatened her and told her that nothing would happen to him because he was part of the police force.

In the recording, the woman made an appeal to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying she had failed to get justice while she was alive and hoped that action would be taken after her death.

Police said that two videos recorded by the woman surfaced after the incident. In both clips, she repeated allegations of harassment and said she felt she had no option left but to end her life.

Following the incident, the victim's father lodged a complaint with the police accusing the constable of harassment and holding him responsible for his daughter's death.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Jenter Babu alias JB Gautam under charges of abetment of suicide and for establishing a relationship with the woman on the pretext of marriage.

Officials said that the accused constable has been arrested and sent to jail while further investigation into the case is underway.

However, police officials also stated that the woman had not previously filed a formal written complaint at the police station regarding the alleged harassment before the incident occurred.

Authorities said statements from family members and others connected to the case are being recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
