Agra, Feb 1: Breaking caste barriers, 49 couples exchanged wedding vows at a mass marriage ceremony organized by a local NGO here.
The ceremony was organised last evening. "The couples usually come from lower strata, some are disabled and a few from upper caste," said Lalit Kumar of the NGO Chetna Sewa Samiti.

"This year the couples have come from Meerut, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Aligarh, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Bareilly, Hathras and Delhi," Kumar said.
He said that each couple was gifted household items, worth at least Rs 1 lakh. Locals also made donations for the ceremony. The relatives of the couples were treated to a feast after the marriage ceremony.
