After Sushma Swaraj helps, Indian woman to return home from Germany

New Delhi, Feb 4: An Indian woman in distress and her daughter, living in a refugee camp in Germany, are being sent back to India, after she appealed to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for help.

"We have brought Gurpreet and her 8 year old daughter from the refugee camp to our Consulate in Frankfurt," Swaraj tweeted.

Germany: Indian woman to return home

Swaraj said Gurpreet and her daughter will reach New Delhi from Frankfurt by flight AI 120 at 9.35 am today. The woman, Gurpreet, posted a short video on Twitter, requesting for help. She had alleged that she and her seven-year-old daughter had been kept in a refugee camp in Germany by her husband's family.

Following her request, Swaraj directed the Indian Consulate General in Frankfurt to help the woman.

In another tweet, Swaraj complimented Indian Ambassador to Germany Gurjit Singh and Consul General in Frankfurt Raveesh Kumar for helping the woman and her child.

Gurpreet, hailing from Faridabad, said she and her daughter wanted to go back to India as soon as possible and claimed she was taken to Germany by her in-laws in a "fraudulent" way.

She, however, had not mentioned where she was staying.

Swaraj is known for ensuring prompt help to distressed Indians abroad. Recently, she had tweeted that Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh will handle the problems of the Indian diaspora.
