After #BlockNarendraModi trends, his followers on Twitter shoot up
It is still not clear who created the hashtag. However many who posted comments to block Modi appeared to have an affiliation towards the Congress.
Thursday witnessed #BlockNarendraModi trending. This htag was created after it came to light that Prime Minister Narendra Modi follows at least four Twitter handles that posted celebratory tweets after journalist Gauri Lankesh was murdered.
However the #BlockNarendraModi tag which was trending appeared to have an adverse effect. Modi's followers on @narendramodi shot up from 33.7 million to 33.8 million. On Wednesday his number of followers stayed the same. However there was an increase in the number of followers by Thursday night.
After #BlockNarendraModi was created several users had posted screenshots of them having blocked Modi. While many criticised Modi for following those handles which celebrated Gauri's death, the BJP supporters poked fun at them.
