Afghan: Deputy governor shot dead in Kandahar university

Kandahar, Nov 3: An AFP report says that a deputy provincial governor in Kandahar in Afghanistan has been shot dead while he was attending a class at a university.

According to the report, thirty-two-year-old Abdul Qadeem Patyall succumbed to his injuries after a gunman opened fire at him through the window of a classroom at Kandahar University. The incident took place late Sunday.

Patyall was a student at Kandahar university where he was studying to become a teacher. He was seriously wounded and died later in hospital, said the report.

The country's President Ashraf Ghani sent condolences to the grieving family. The president described Patyall's killing as a terrorist attack. The report says that a government delegation will investigate the incident.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A day ago, nine Afghan security forces personnel were killed in a suicide attack south of the capital Kabul. Taliban terror group has intensified its activities in the country.
