Mumbai Police Detain Clerks for Alleged Admission Racket at K J Somaiya College

The Mumbai police have detained three individuals, including two clerks from K J Somaiya College, for allegedly orchestrating a cash-for-admission scheme at Somaiya Vidyavihar University. Officials reported that the suspects forged marksheets and leaving certificates to facilitate admissions for students ineligible for Class 11 during the 2024-25 academic year.

Clerks Arrested in Mumbai Admission Racket

Admissions were secured at K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Shree S K Somaiyya Vinay Mandir Secondary School and Junior College, and K J Somaiyya College of Science and Commerce. The accused clerks, Mahendra Patil and Arjun Rathod, along with associates Kamleshbhai, Jitubhai, and Babubhai, allegedly created fake documents for students from various educational boards.

Forgery Scheme Uncovered

The accused reportedly generated login IDs and passwords to complete the online admission process. They collected money from parents of ineligible students by forging CBSE, ICSE, IB, and IGCSE marksheets. This fraudulent activity not only deceived the college but also impacted the school education department and other institutions.

The principal of K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce filed a complaint at Tilak Nagar police station after discovering the scam. A case was registered against five individuals, including two university staff members. The investigation revealed the involvement of clerks Patil and Rathod, leading to their arrest.

Legal Action Initiated

Authorities have charged the suspects under relevant sections of the BNS and IT Act. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to uncover more details about the scheme. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in the admission process that were exploited by those involved.

As the probe progresses, officials aim to identify all parties involved in this conspiracy. The case underscores the importance of stringent checks in educational institutions to prevent such fraudulent activities from occurring in the future.
