Adityanath Equates Congress's Tax Plan to Aurangzeb's Jizya, Pledges Protection
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a series of poll rallies across six Lok Sabha seats, launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, drawing parallels between their proposed inheritance tax and the jizya tax imposed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Adityanath's remarks came amidst the bustling election season, stirring considerable political discourse. He accused the Congress of planning to allocate properties to Muslim infiltrators from Bangladesh and Pakistan, a claim vehemently denied by the Congress.

The Chief Minister highlighted the development initiatives undertaken by the BJP government over the past decade, notably mentioning the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He positioned the upcoming elections as a battle between the devotees of Lord Ram and those opposed to the temple, urging voters to reject the latter. Adityanath's narrative extended to national security, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for a decade free of terrorist incidents.
Adityanath's critique of the Congress was fueled by comments made by Congress leader Sam Pitroda regarding inheritance tax laws in the United States. The BJP has seized these remarks as ammunition against the opposition, despite Congress clarifications denying any intentions to introduce such a tax.
The rallies saw Adityanath addressing constituents in various constituencies including Balrampur, Azamgarh, Domariyaganj, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Basti. In Balrampur, he underscored welfare schemes benefiting underprivileged communities and efforts to preserve Tharu culture. He contrasted the current developmental status of Balrampur with its past under the Samajwadi Party (SP), labeling it previously as one of the most backward districts.
In Domariyaganj and Sant Kabir Nagar, Adityanath continued his offensive against the SP and Congress, accusing them of fostering terrorism and mafia activities. He praised his government's crackdown on criminal elements, asserting a safer environment for residents. The revival of Munderwa Sugar Mill and infrastructure improvements in Basti were cited as achievements under his administration.
The Chief Minister's campaign trail also took him to Azamgarh, where he challenged the electorate to reject those he claimed had tarnished the constituency's reputation. The sixth phase of polling scheduled for May 25 will cover 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phoolpur, Allahabad, Ambedkarnagar, Shravasti, Domariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj SC, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr, and Bhadohi.
Adityanath's rallying cry underscores a high-stakes electoral contest framed around issues of cultural heritage, national security, and socio-economic development. As Uttar Pradesh prepares to vote in this crucial phase, the political narrative woven by Adityanath sets a definitive tone for the BJP's campaign strategy.
