The countdown for India's inaugural solar mission, Aditya L1, has officially commenced. Following the historic landing of India's Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon's southern pole, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is eagerly anticipating the Aditya L1 mission's success. The mission is scheduled for liftoff on September 2, 2023, at 11:50 am IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

Named Aditya L1 after the sun's core, this mission has ambitious objectives aimed at unraveling the sun's mysteries. It will orbit around the Lagrange Point (L1) of the Sun-Earth System, providing unprecedented insights into the sun's behavior.

Aditya L1's mission includes observing the photosphere, chromosphere, corona, and the sun's outermost layers, with the goal of understanding the sequence of processes leading to solar eruptive events. It will also collect data on particle dynamics from the sun's in-situ particle and plasma environment.

The total cost of the Aditya L1 mission is Rs 378 crore ($44.7 million).

ISRO Chief S Somanath recently addressed the media, stating, "We are preparing for the launch. The rocket and satellite are ready, and we have completed the launch rehearsal. Tomorrow, we will initiate the countdown for the launch, which is the day after tomorrow."
