'Adipurush' Faces Backlash as Oppn Parties Demand Apology From Makers

Om Raut's latest film, 'Adipurush,' an adaptation of the revered Sanskrit epic Ramayana, is facing significant criticism from opposition parties. The use of colloquial language and what is deemed as a subpar portrayal of Hindu deities has sparked heated debates and strong reactions.

While the film has received acclaim for its visual effects, the star-studded cast, and contentious dialogue, it has also generated controversy due to its adaptation of a widely revered epic.

Adipurush Faces Backlash as Oppn Parties Demand Apology Over Controversial Portrayal, Dialogue

AAP Criticises 'Adipurush' For Offensive Dialogues

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly condemned 'Adipurush,' citing objectionable dialogue and derogatory depictions of Hindu deities.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh has demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda, accusing the BJP of endorsing content that disrespects Hinduism. Singh expressed deep disappointment with the film's dialogue, claiming it would bring shame to listeners. He further criticised the BJP, labeling them as a party of hooligans with an arrogant attitude toward religion.

Furthermore, the screening of 'Adipurush' in Kathmandu, Nepal, has been halted following warnings from Mayor Balen Shah regarding the film's depiction of Sita's birthplace. The Nepal Film Union has called for all Kathmandu cinemas to stop screening the film, and cinemas outside the capital are advised to do the same after assessing the security situation.

The film stars Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, with Saif Ali Khan portraying Ravana and Sunny Singh as Laxman. Despite being one of the most anticipated releases of the year, 'Adipurush' has faced intense trolling due to its inappropriate dialogue and crass depiction of Hindu mythological figures. One particular scene involving Lord Hanumana setting Ravana's Lanka on fire has garnered strong criticism.

'Tapori' Dialogues: Congress Slams 'Adipurush'

The Congress party has also joined in the condemnation, denouncing the language used in 'Adipurush' as "tapori" and accusing the film of being in the business of religion.

Congress's social media head, Supriya Shrinate, highlighted the contrast between the film and the original Ramayana's portrayal of Siyaram, emphasising the sweet, gentle, and endearing image created by the epic's author.

Shiv Sena MP Demands Apology

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also voiced her strong displeasure with the film's dialogue writing, demanding an apology from the filmmakers to the entire country. She expressed how derogatory language associated with revered deities in the name of entertainment deeply hurt the sensibilities of every Indian.

Chaturvedi emphasised that sacrificing decency and respect for quick box office success was unacceptable, particularly when portraying the revered figure of Maryada Purushottam Ram.

Meanwhile, the Hindu Sena has taken legal action by filing a Writ petition at the Delhi High Court, urging that the film not be certified for public exhibition. The petition argues that 'Adipurush' has deeply offended the Hindu community through its inaccurate and inappropriate portrayal of religious leaders and characters.
