Additional CCTV cameras to monitor Amritpal at isolation ward in Assam

Radical Sikh leader, Amritpal Singh was arrested by the Punjab Police after a month long chase.

He has been kept in an isolation ward in Assam. The arrest was a combined effort by the Punjab Police, and the national Intelligence agencies. Singh was declared a fugitive and the National Security Act (NSA) has been slapped against him as he is a stooge of the ISI.

Following his arrest the Punjab Police took out a flag march to ensure that law and order was in place. "We have earlier too taken out marches to ensure that the law and order situation was in place," Bathinda Superintendent of Police Gurvinder Singh said.

Meanwhile the police took stock of the security in situation in the Assam jail where Singh and his supporters have been lodged. Additional CCTV cameras have been installed in the jail premises and the same would be manned by the state and central police personnel, sources tell OneIndia.

Amritpal Singh was arrested following a month long chase by the Punjab Police. Last week, his wife, Kirandeep Kaur was stopped at the airport and was not given clearance to leave the country. The source cited above said that these sequence of events finally led to Singh's arrest.

Amritpal has been placed under arrest in Assam along with his nine of his associates. He will remain lodged the jail at Dibrugarh, Assam along with his associates.

Prior to his arrest, Singh had told his followers that he believed that due to the grace of his gurus, one day he will be able to be among his people. He also said that he wants the agitation to continue. "I did not have any fear of arrest and neither do I have it now," Singh also told his followers.

"I had the opportunity to go to other countries, but I have decided to surrender. I want to stay here for the sake of my followers," Singh also said prior to his arrest.
