Gautam Adani to Lead Landmark Seva Initiative for Rural Vision Care in Bihar

Gautam Adani will oversee a large rural vision care project in Mastichak, Bihar, aimed at expanding affordable eye treatment, healthcare outreach, and skilling programs. In collaboration with Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital, the initiative seeks to create one of the world’s largest rural vision care networks, boosting last-mile access and health education across the Hindi heartland.

Billionaire industrialist and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani will lead the groundbreaking ceremony of a large-scale rural vision care initiative in Bihar on Sunday, marking a significant step towards expanding affordable healthcare access across underserved regions in northern and central India.

The event will take place in Mastichak, nearly 70 kilometres from Patna, and is being jointly organised by the Adani Foundation and Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital. The initiative aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem for vision care, healthcare outreach and skilling programmes targeted at economically weaker sections.

According to organisers, the proposed expansion is expected to strengthen rural healthcare infrastructure and improve last-mile access to affordable eye treatment and preventive care. Once completed, the Mastichak ecosystem is projected to emerge as one of the world’s largest rural vision care networks. The programme is also expected to enhance healthcare skilling and outreach capacities across the Hindi heartland, potentially benefiting crores of underprivileged people.

The initiative reflects Gautam Adani’s philosophy of "Seva Hi Saadhna Hai" (service is the highest form of worship), which has increasingly shaped the Adani Group’s social outreach and philanthropic efforts across India. In recent years, the Adani family has announced several large-scale commitments towards healthcare, education and skill development. On Gautam Adani’s 60th birthday in 2022, the family pledged ₹60,000 crore towards social initiatives across the country. Last year, an additional ₹10,000 crore commitment was announced during the wedding celebrations of Jeet Adani, focused on similar sectors.

The Group has also undertaken several seva-driven programmes, including support for nearly 50 lakh pilgrims during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj in 2025 and the distribution of free meals and refreshments during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Odisha.

Founded in 2005 as a 30-bed facility in rural Bihar, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital has grown into one of India’s leading eye care institutions. The hospital has reportedly conducted more than 14 lakh sight-restoring surgeries and millions of eye screenings over the years.

The upcoming initiative also builds upon the Adani Foundation’s Vision Care Programme, launched in 2024. The programme has so far conducted nearly 1.93 lakh eye screenings and provided prescription eyeglasses to around 59,000 beneficiaries across 11 states through rural outreach and school screening campaigns.

The event is expected to draw attention from healthcare experts, policymakers and industry leaders, while also underlining Bihar’s growing importance in the Adani Group’s long-term development and community engagement plans.
