AC failure in ICU leaves 4 patients dead in Kanpur

Four patients have died in Kanpur's Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College allegedly due to the failure of Air Conditioning system in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Some reports also claim that malfuncitioning of certain equipments could also be behind the deaths.

"Two deaths occurred due to cardiac arrest and other 2 due to chronic illness..AC plant to be repaired soon," ANI quoted GSVM's pricipal as saying.

Family members of some of the patients accused that Air Conditioners used to be turned on only when doctors were on visit.

After the incident, which occurred late on Thursday night, patients have been shifted to other hospitals, while district magistrate Surendra Singh has directed officials to immediately install two air-conditioners sent by him and ordered a probe into the matter, reported News 18. total of 290 children had died at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur in August, 2017, out of which 213 were in the neonatal ICU and 77 in the encephalitis ward. Till 29 August 2017, 175 children had died because of encephalitis (including 77 in August alone). The number was 641 in 2016.
