Abu Salem behind bars for life in Pradeep Jain murder
Mumbai, Feb 25: The most-awaited judgement in the murder case of Mumbai-based builder Pradeep Jain has finally come to a closure, wherein, extradited gangster Abu Salem has been sentenced to life imprisonment by teh TADA court.
47-year old Salem, who was also a former associate of wanted terrorist and mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, is currently held in Taloja Central jail in the adjoining Raigad district.
Special public prosecutor, Ujjwal Nikam had demanded a death sentence for Salem in this case. However, pertaining to the extradition treaty between India and Portugal, he could not be given a death sentence.
On Feb 16, Salem and his two accomplices-Mehndi Hasan and Virendra Jhamb were found guilty of the murder of Jain. The latter was shot outside his Juhu residence on March 7, 1955 over a property dispute.
The trio were charged and convicted for murder and criminal conspiracy.
