Abhishek Banerjee Proposes Performance-Based Reshuffle in TMC's District Organisations for Electoral Accountability
Abhishek Banerjee, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has proposed a performance-based reshuffle within the party's organisational structure. This proposal was submitted to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The aim is to enhance the party's effectiveness and accountability in various towns. The reshuffle will impact district organisations and leaders in around 125 municipalities managed by the TMC.

The reshuffle is intended to ensure that leaders contribute actively to the party's growth and stability. Abhishek Banerjee emphasised that performance will be the main criterion for this reshuffle. "Just being loyal to a political leader is not going to protect you. Everyone has to perform as per their roles in the party's organisation," he stated during an interaction with journalists at his Kalighat residence.
Focus on Performance and Accountability
The changes are particularly targeted at areas where electoral results were unsatisfactory. The roles of councillors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons in civic bodies that did not meet expectations during the Lok Sabha elections will be reviewed. Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the MP of Diamond Harbour, noted that inactive leadership in certain regions has limited the party's reach.
According to TMC sources, this reshuffle aims to build a robust organisation ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. However, it will not affect seven municipal corporation areas, including Kolkata, nor will it impact the party's panchayat-level organisation. The TMC currently has 35 organisational districts, and changes are expected in 10 of them.
Reshuffle Strategy and Exclusions
The reshuffle strategy excludes major municipal corporations and focuses on smaller municipalities. This decision reflects an effort to concentrate on areas needing improvement without disrupting stable regions. The goal is to ensure a strong organisational presence across all levels.
While discussing his vision for the party, Abhishek Banerjee was greeted by a large crowd outside his residence celebrating his birthday. Supporters gathered with bouquets and posters, eager for a glimpse of him amid festive cheer. He took time to greet them and engage with some attendees.
This initiative underscores the TMC's commitment to refining its organisational structure based on performance metrics. By focusing on accountability and active leadership, the party aims to strengthen its position in upcoming elections.
