Abdul Kalam's scientific adviser appointed VP of Kamal Haasan's MNM

Chennai, Mar 03: V Ponraj, scientific adviser to former President and scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, has been appointed as the Vice President of Makkal Needhi Maiam.

He had made his entry into the politics in 2016 and announced his party - Abdul Kalam Vision India Party which came into existence on 28th February 2016.

Meanwhile, MNM authorised its chief to decide on the party''s electoral strategy for the coming Assembly polls and announced he will be its "permanent president."

Haasan has invested his talent, profession, wealth and fame for the welfare of the Tamil people, the party'' General Convention, which met under him here.

Further, it unanimously authorised him to take a call on any party-related decisions. This included electoral alliance, poll strategy and selection of candidates, among others, the party said.

A number of other resolutions were also adopted in the meeting, including opposing any efforts by the central BJP government to "impose Hindi and Sanskrit" on Tamil people.

Haasan also hinted he might consider an invite for alliance with the DMK if it came directly from the top leadership.

The ruling AIADMK-BJP and DMK-Congress led alliances have already launched campaigns for the polls likely in April-May with their respective leaders undertaking tours.

On Sunday, MNM commenced issuing applications to aspirants for the party''s tickets for the polls, the first assembly elections in the state after the demise of AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi.
