AAP's Atishi To Take Delhi Chief Minister's Oath On September 21
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced that the new Delhi Chief Minister, Atishi, alongside her cabinet, will officially take their oaths on September 21. This decision comes after AAP initially planned for only Atishi to be inaugurated. The ceremony marks a significant transition following Arvind Kejriwal's resignation from the chief minister role earlier in the week. Atishi's ascension to office follows her stake to form a new government in the capital.
Following Kejriwal's resignation as Delhi's chief minister, Lt Governor V K Saxena suggested September 21 for the new swearing-in ceremony. This proposal aligns with Atishi's move to form the government. The AAP has also revealed that Kejriwal intends to relinquish his security detail and vacate the chief minister's official residence within 15 days, choosing to live as a "commoner". The upcoming inauguration of Atishi and her council is anticipated to be a subdued event, held at Raj Niwas, reflecting the somber mood surrounding Kejriwal's departure.

An AAP representative shared that Atishi regards the moment of her taking office as bittersweet, requesting that celebrations be muted in respect of the circumstances. The ceremony is set to underscore the party's current sentiments, with Atishi emphasizing the emotional weight of the occasion over ceremonial grandeur. The LG Secretariat disclosed that Saxena communicated with President Droupadi Murmu, recommending September 21 for the ceremony. This followed the official forwarding of Kejriwal's resignation to Murmu, signifying a formal end to his term and setting the stage for Atishi's leadership.
This transition of leadership within Delhi's government unfolds under unique circumstances, with Atishi stepping into the role amid reflections on Kejriwal's tenure and his decision to step down. As the city awaits the new chapter under Atishi's guidance, the focus remains on her approach to governance and how it will navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Delhi.
