AAP Stages Protest Over Water Shortage at Haryana Bhawan

In a recent display of political activism, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organized a protest at the Haryana Bhawan, voicing their concerns over the alleged withholding of Delhi's share of Yamuna's water by the neighbouring state of Haryana. The demonstration, which took place on Monday, saw a significant turnout of AAP workers, including MLA Kuldeep Kumar, who vocally criticized the BJP-led Haryana government for its actions amidst the sweltering heatwave conditions affecting north India.

AAPs Water Crisis Protest

Kumar highlighted the urgency of the situation, calling for the intervention of the Lt Governor as Delhi's representative. The protest wasn't confined to just one location; AAP leaders and supporters also gathered at several key points across the city, including the BJP headquarters, Mandi House, and Connaught Place, to make their voices heard.

Shiv Charan Goel, AAP MLA from Moti Nagar, emphasized the dire circumstances under which they were protesting and made a poignant appeal to both the Haryana and central governments not to deprive Delhi of its rightful share of water. He pointed out that not only residents but also BJP MPs and various ministries located in Delhi are dependent on this essential resource. Goel's statement underscored the critical nature of their demand: a full restoration of Delhi's water share to support its population and uphold its status as India's capital.

The backdrop to these protests is a series of accusations by the Delhi government against Haryana over the past two weeks, claiming non-compliance in releasing Delhi's share of water. In contrast, the BJP has retorted by accusing AAP leaders of spreading falsehoods about the water shortage issue. Virendra Sachdeva, BJP's Delhi unit chief, countered by attributing the crisis to mismanagement on part of the AAP government, leading to water theft and wastage.

This ongoing dispute highlights not only the immediate challenges posed by resource allocation between states but also raises broader questions about governance, accountability, and environmental stewardship in managing vital resources like water. As both sides stand firm on their positions, the resolution to this conflict remains to be seen.
