AAP MP Donates £3 Million for Memorial Library for UPSC Aspirants

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh met with UPSC aspirants protesting in Rajinder Nagar. He announced a donation of Rs 3 crore for a library in memory of three students who died in a flooded basement of a civil services coaching centre. Singh stated, "I will give Rs 1 crore each from my MPLAD fund to build them."

£3M Memorial Library for UPSC

During the interaction, students demanded accountability for senior officers responsible for the accident at Raus IAS Study Circle. They also requested strict action against those involved. Responding to these demands, Singh suggested creating a welfare fund by coaching centre owners and the government to assist students when needed.

Compensation and Regulation

The Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will provide Rs 10 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased students. Singh also mentioned that efforts would be made to secure Rs 1 crore compensation from the coaching institute within a month. Additionally, he highlighted that a law would be made to regulate coaching centres, incorporating students' suggestions.

Singh said, "The government has decided to make a law to regulate coaching centres, in which the suggestions of the students will also be included." He added that an order had been issued for this purpose. Ten students will be involved in drafting this law, which will soon be presented in the assembly.

Library Construction and Job Demands

Singh announced plans to build three public libraries in memory of the deceased students once land is available from MCD or DDA. He reiterated his commitment by saying, "As soon as the land is available from MCD or DDA, I will build three public libraries in the memory of the three students by spending Rs 1 crore each from my MP fund."

Regarding job demands, Singh mentioned that Delhi's services come under the LG. He said, "Our minister has written a letter to the LG for this. We will also go and meet him so that this demand for jobs can be fulfilled." The students had raised this issue during their interaction.

CCTV Footage and Permanent Solutions

The students requested the release of CCTV footage from the Rajinder Nagar incident. Singh assured them that a cabinet minister had already written a similar letter to Delhi Police. He stated, "The Commissioner of Delhi Police or any police officer who can provide the CCTV footage, we will take time from them and any student who wants to come with me can accompany me."

Singh emphasised creating a permanent system to address and resolve student complaints. He said, "A permanent system should be made to address the complaints of the students and resolve them." This initiative aims to ensure student grievances are handled efficiently.

During their meeting with Singh, students reiterated demands made to Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi on Wednesday. Singh assured them these demands would be fulfilled as soon as possible. The interaction highlighted various issues faced by UPSC aspirants and potential solutions.

The announcement of compensation and plans for new libraries aims to support affected families and provide better facilities for future aspirants. The proposed law regulating coaching centres seeks to prevent such incidents and ensure student safety.
