AAP MLA Naresh Balyan Arrested Over Extortion Case In Delhi
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has detained Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan. This arrest is linked to an alleged extortion case from the previous year. Officials disclosed that an audio recording surfaced, featuring a conversation between Balyan and gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu, who resides overseas. The dialogue reportedly involved plans to collect ransom from businesspeople.
Political Allegations and Reactions
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gaurav Bhatia accused MLA Naresh Balyan of collaborating with a gangster for extortion purposes. He claimed that "gangsters" are prominent supporters of AAP. Bhatia stated, "AAP has become a party of goons... Gangsters are the biggest supporters of AAP." He further alleged that extortion activities occur under the guidance of AAP leaders.

In response to these allegations, the police have been interrogating Balyan and continue to investigate the case. The BJP's accusations arise amidst AAP's criticism of the central government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding rising crime rates in Delhi. They have labeled Delhi as becoming a "gangster capital."
Concerns Over Law and Order
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP's national convener, has voiced concerns about the worsening law and order situation in Delhi. He highlighted a notable increase in gang violence, extortion threats to businessmen, and frequent shootings over the past one to two years. Kejriwal compared this scenario to Mumbai's underworld dominance during the 1990s.
The ongoing investigation into Naresh Balyan's alleged involvement in extortion reflects broader concerns about crime in Delhi. As authorities delve deeper into this case, political tensions between AAP and BJP continue to escalate, with both parties exchanging accusations over governance and public safety issues.
