AAP Rallies Support for Mega Gathering in Delhi to Back Arrested CM Kejriwal
New Delhi, March 29 - In a significant show of solidarity and strength, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders embarked on a comprehensive outreach program on Friday, engaging directly with the citizens of Delhi. The initiative aimed to galvanize support for the party's upcoming mega rally scheduled for March 31, while also protesting against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, over allegations tied to the now-defunct excise policy, has sparked widespread controversy and debate.

The AAP's Delhi Convenor, Gopal Rai, accompanied by numerous party workers, took to the streets of central Delhi's Regarpura and Karol Bagh areas. Their mission was clear: to personally invite residents to join the rally at Ramlila Maidan and to voice their concerns over what they perceive as an assault on democracy. Rai articulated the sentiment of anger among the populace following the arrest of Kejriwal, describing him as a "popularly elected Chief Minister" whose detainment has incited public fury against the central government.
"Today, we are going door-to-door to distribute invitation letters and urging the people to come to Ramlila Maidan and raise their voices peacefully against democracy and dictatorship," Rai stated during his outreach efforts. He further highlighted that the rally would see participation from all prominent leaders of the INDIA bloc of opposition parties, signaling a unified front against the ruling establishment.
In a parallel demonstration of protest, AAP leader Vishesh Ravi led a candle march to express dissent against Kejriwal's arrest. The visual of party members and supporters holding candles in a peaceful procession underscored the party's commitment to non-violent protest.
However, not all efforts to mobilize support went unchallenged. AAP MLA Somnath Bharti reported that he and fellow lawmaker Virendra Kadian faced obstruction from police while attempting to invite residents in the Delhi Cantt area to the rally. Bharti claimed that despite police citing Section 144, which prohibits assembly of four or more people in an area, no official orders were shown to justify their actions. "What does the BJP want? First, jail the top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and then stop their candidates from campaigning for election," Bharti remarked, voicing his criticism of what he perceives as political maneuvering by the ruling party.
The AAP's concerted effort to engage with the public through door-to-door invitations and candle marches reflects a strategic approach to rallying support amidst challenging circumstances. With key opposition figures set to join the mega rally at Ramlila Maidan, it represents not only a significant moment for the AAP but also for the broader landscape of Indian politics as it stands today.
