AAP Govt Provides Insurance Assistance to Over 2,700 Lawyers and Families

Families of over 200 deceased lawyers received financial aid exceeding Rs 15 crore, and more than 2,500 lawyers and their families benefited from medical insurance under a scheme initiated by the Kejriwal government in 2019, Delhi Law Minister Atishi stated on Saturday. She emphasised that the AAP government has been meeting all its obligations towards lawyers.

Speaking at the 17th foundation day of Dwarka district court, Atishi highlighted that the Kejriwal government is the first in India to provide up to 200 units of free electricity to lawyers for their chambers. "As a government, we have been fulfilling all our responsibilities towards lawyers and will continue to do so. We will always work for the betterment of lawyers," she added.

Chief Minister Advocate Welfare Scheme

Under the Chief Minister Advocate Welfare Scheme, the Kejriwal government offers term insurance of Rs 10 lakh and medical insurance of Rs 5 lakh to lawyers. Atishi noted that around 28,000 lawyers have enrolled in this scheme so far. "This scheme proved to be very helpful for the lawyers during Corona," she shared.

The scheme, launched in 2019, aims to improve the welfare of lawyers and receives an annual fund of Rs 50 crore from the government. Atishi mentioned that it quickly became beneficial for lawyer colleagues during the pandemic. During this period, families of more than 200 deceased lawyers received financial assistance exceeding Rs 15 crore, while over 2,500 lawyers and their families availed themselves of medical insurance benefits.
