Ready to extend deadline to link Aadhaar with govt services to March 2018: Centre tells SC
The government has said that it will extend the deadline to link Aadhaar to government welfare schemes from December 2017 to March 2018.

While making the proposal, the government said it would tell the Supreme Court if it agrees not to act against those who choose not to link Aadhaar with bank accounts, mobiles etc until the court takes a final call on the matter.
During the course of the hearing, the court sought to know if the government could promise that no coercive would be taken against those who chose not link their Aadhaar until the SC takes a final call. The Centre said it would inform the SC about the same by Monday.
Meanwhile, those arguing against Aadhaar said that the case has been pending for too long. The case is crying for a hearing they said. Further they submitted that a school child cannot go for exams without putting his fingerprint for Aadhaar. Is this the kind of civil liberty we have, they further asked.
On the security factor, the Centre informed the court that a panel is working on the data protection law which would be framed by February 2018.
