A Sweet Gesture: Indian And Chinese Troops Celebrate Diwali Together At LAC
In a heartwarming display of camaraderie, Indian and Chinese troops exchanged sweets along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Diwali, symbolizing a positive shift in Sino-Indian relations.
This exchange occurred following the recent disengagement at two key friction points in eastern Ladakh: Demchok and the Depsang Plains.

According to an Army source, the sweet-sharing tradition took place at various border points as a gesture of goodwill, reflecting a renewed spirit of cooperation between the two nations. The timing of this exchange is significant, as it follows the completion of disengagement at these friction points, which was finalized just a day earlier.
The recent developments mark a hopeful step towards stabilizing ties that have been strained since 2020, a period marked by heightened tensions due to aggressive actions by Chinese troops along the LAC. The situation reached a critical point on June 15, 2020, when 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives during a confrontation in the Galwan Valley.
The engagement at the border follows weeks of negotiations, culminating in a pact announced on October 21 by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. This agreement aims to address issues stemming from the standoff, focusing on troop disengagement and patrolling along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
On Wednesday, an Army source confirmed that both sides had completed disengagement at the two friction points and that patrolling would soon commence. The verification process post-disengagement is currently underway, with modalities for patrolling to be determined by ground commanders.
The exchange of sweets during Diwali serves as a beacon of hope for further collaborative and peaceful interactions between India and China. Steeped in tradition, this gesture underscores the potential for reconciliation and dialogue, highlighting the importance of maintaining positive relations amidst challenges. As both nations continue to navigate their complex relationship, such displays of goodwill may pave the way for a more harmonious future.
