A glimpse into newly built Parliament House annexe extension
While one houses committee rooms and an auditorium, the ‘high rise' blocks houses offices of chairpersons of various committees.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the new Parliament House annexe extension, which will house rooms and offices of various parliamentary committees.
The building has committee rooms, an auditorium, a banquet hall and chambers for chairpersons of standing committees.

The new structure has two blocs spread over 39,495 square metres.
The foundation stone of the Extension building was laid in May 2009 by Vice-President M Hamid Ansari and then Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. The construction work started in May 2011 and was completed in December 2016.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Parliamentary Affairs minister Ananth Kumar and Urban Development minister Narendra Singh Tomar were also present at the ceremony.

State of the art facility

Architectural Design
Apart from the fact that the building was built with indigenous material and by Indian labour, the architecture of the building bears a close imprint of the Indian tradition. In the walls, the Constitution of India and also the state emblem of India have been designed. Photo credit: PTI.

Energy efficient
The new extension building is said to be energy efficient and will use solar technology to save conventional power. It has provision for solar power generation and provides easy access to the differently-abled. Photo credit: PIB twitter handle.

Parliament House annexe
With the manifold increase in the activities of Parliament, the new annexe has accommodation for parliamentary parties, meeting halls, committee rooms visitors room.The building also has large corridors and surrounded by beautiful lawns. Photo credit PIB twitter handle.

PM Modi takes a look
After the inauguration, the Prime Minister took a walk inside the annexe, which is expected to lessen the load on the Parliament House, which is in need of proper conservation. Photo credit PTI.
