A baby girl dies after being slapped by father

Jamshedpur, Aug 16: A three-and-half-year-old girl died after allegedly being slapped by her father in Naya bustee area on the outskirt of the steel city here, police said on Monday.

Murli Patra, a daily wage labourer, slapped the baby girl yesterday when she did not stop crying despite all attempts to pacify her, Deputy Superintendent of Police B N Singh said.

The girl fainted after being slapped and she was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The victim's mother told police that Patra used to beat up the girl frequently, he said, adding that the father was arrested.
